All things wedding, Engagement, Proposal Ideas

Our Favorite Proposal Spots in Detroit

The revitalization of Detroit has been an endless story of new beginnings and opportunities, with citizens and communities designing exciting new projects every day. Few events in a Detroit native’s lifetime mirror this progress better than a proposal and wedding. If you’re ready to start writing the beginning of your story, here are our favorite proposal spots in the Motor City!

Classic City Proposals

Belle Isle Park

For a beautiful and classically Detroit proposal, head over to Belle Isle Park with your loved one. Whether you propose inside the heated Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory while ice still flows in the river or at Sunset Point in the summer, this destination is sure to please. Surrounded by water, with approximately 7 miles of shoreline, it is an incomparably picturesque spot conveniently close to downtown. Biking or walking to the park is free, and so is admission to the century-old conservatory and aquarium. So many options in a gorgeous location!

Detroit RiverWalk

Go exploring for your proposal, and enjoy stunning views of the Detroit River and the Detroit skyline at the RiverWalk. The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy hosts various programs throughout the year including special events and weekly programs, so there’ll be no shortage of things to do. Whether you like to run, bike, walk, or picnic together, find a spot you love and propose at the end of the day. Celebrate at one of your favorite restaurants, or throw a surprise party to show off your engagement!

Quirky Proposals

Ford Drive-In Movie Theater

For a vintage and unconventional proposal, ask your partner in a classic car at the Ford Drive-In, in nearby Dearborn. It was built in the 1950s, and you and your partner will love the retro atmosphere and setting. Distracted by the lights of the huge screen, and music from surrounding cars, your S/O will never expect you to whip out the perfect engagement ring! Bring a picnic with all of your favorite foods, and settle in for a sweet night of people watching, snacking, and your unique, once-in-a-lifetime moment.

Sanders Chocolate Factory

Make your proposal the sweetest it can be with a free guided tour of the famous Sanders Chocolate Factory! The tour can be made by appointment anytime and includes history presentations, walkthroughs of the factory, a visit to their shoppe, and most importantly, free chocolate samples. What better way to propose than being surrounded by sweet treats and delectable chocolate?

Out and About Proposals

Campus Martius Park

At Campus Martius Park, proposal possibilities are limitless! Want to propose in the summer? Do it at the urban beach. 400,000 pounds of sand and colorful, comfortable lounge chairs offer a relaxing atmosphere for you and your loved one to have fun outdoors in a beach-like setting during the hotter months. They have weekly beach parties with food and drink specials, and live entertainment. You can even bring a group of friends and make a day out of your trip here. If it’s winter, propose while ice skating at Frankenmuth Rink, in Campus Martius Park, which turns to a winter wonderland every year in mid-November. Enjoy skating and holiday treats with your S/O and friends for a memorable and magical proposal!

The Belt

Add some artistry to your proposal! The Belt is a culturally redefined alley in the heart of downtown Detroit. Named for its physical orientation in a former downtown garment district, The Belt is located between Broadway and Library Street and links Gratiot and Grand River. It’s a perfect example of Detroit’s reimagining of underutilized spaces throughout the city. This formerly desolate alley has transformed into one of the most amazing, pedestrian-friendly urban spaces in the country. Stroll with your S/O down the Belt, surrounded by murals and installations by local, national, and international artists. Grab a drink before your walk at Standby, or come after for some late-night celebratory gnocchi.

Restaurant Proposals

La Dolce Vita

Mouth-watering Italian cuisine compliments this tucked-away, romantic spot in Detroit’s Palmer Park District. Voted “The Best Patio in Detroit” by Metro Times and other local magazines,  La Dolce Vita offers an eclectic menu perfect for your quintessential date night. Sit back and enjoy live music with your loved one (or invite friends and family) for a celebration with amazing food and drinks.

Iridescence

Lookout at the city from above on the sixteenth floor of Motor City Casino. The incredible views are matched only by the incredible food — contemporary American cuisine and a delicious wine menu and raw bar will make your proposal at Iridescence truly unforgettable. Their chefs are always scouring the area for the finest ingredients, and on your momentous night, you’ll find unique dishes like Himalayan salt-dried beef, house-made (and invented) lobster bacon, or homemade mac-and-cheese to share with your S/O. Head to the Casino afterward for some thrilling fun!
