If Minnesota doesn’t come to mind when you think of a gorgeous escape, you must not be familiar with the Twin Cities! It’s no secret Midwesterners are friendly, but the diversity of the friendly faces you’ll find in Minneapolis might surprise you, as it emerges as a U.S. travel destination. This makes it one of the best places to propose in Minnesota

The unique mix of American-heartland traditions and new international perspectives make Minneapolis eclectic and fun — no wonder you want to propose here! The Land of Lakes is having a moment thanks to its famed art, live music, funky food scene, and the Super Bowl. Here are our favorite spots to take that special someone in Minneapolis to propose!

Classic City Proposals

Stone Arch Bridge

This iconic location is a very popular place to pop the question — with stunning skyline views of Minneapolis and the roaring Mississippi below, this landmark makes a picture-perfect place to propose. There are tons of great restaurants and bars for dinner or drinks before or after the big event at either end of the bridge. Perhaps a dinner and night at the Alma hotel is in order?

Minnehaha Falls

Looking for a naturally stunning spot away from the city? Check out Minnehaha Falls.  The 53-foot waterfall stands tall and proud, tucked against a bustling hillside in southeast Minneapolis. You’d never guess that a nature oasis would be inside the city! Head here in the fall, and take advantage of the beautiful changing colors. Take your S/O on a hike on one of the many trails, or a stroll to the lovely pergola garden. Don’t forget to stop by the fun Sea Salt Eatery, and take in the natural beauty from every direction.

Proposals with Beautiful Views

Foshay Tower

Once the tallest buildings in the city, the historic Foshay Tower at the W Hotel in downtown Minneapolis offers views for miles and miles.  You’ll be on top of the world after you propose to your love (or at least, on top of Minneapolis!). After your special moment on the observation deck, stop off at the Prohibition Bar at the hotel for a celebratory craft cocktail!

Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

Cool public art installations aren’t limited to coastal cities. The iconic “Spoon and Cherry” is a Minneapolis landmark known all over the world.  But the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden underwent an extensive renovation, reopening in 2018. With 11 acres of more than 40 permanent art installations, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is the largest urban sculpture garden in the country. Not only does it overlook the skyline, but you’ll pass by a number of romantic proposal spots! Check out the art installations, then head inside the Walker Art Museum or cross the pretty Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge to walk through Loring Park. Stop off for a cozy, romantic dinner at Café Lurcat after your proposal.

Out and About Proposals

Como Conservatory

Known for its tropical climate and impeccable flora, the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory at the Como Zoo in St. Paul is a timeless and gorgeous choice for a proposal.  While it is always free and open to the public, you can rent the space after hours for some real privacy. Pop the question in the Sunken Gardens — during the holiday season, the beautiful annual Poinsettia Holiday Display is perfect. Any other time of year, the lush foliage is the closest thing to a tropical location as anything you’ll find in Minnesota!

Minnesota State Fair

Where else can you explore endless fun with your loved one, eat food on a stick, ride in a Sky Glider above the crowds, indulge in some Sweet Martha’s cookies, AND create an unforgettable proposal? The Minnesota State Fair is an annual tradition for many Minnesotans, and for good reason. The huge variety of foods, people-watching, and rides make this a fun choice for a sly day-date proposal. You could even hide the ring in a bucket of cookies!
