While the main attraction of your engagement ring is your new lab-grown diamond, the setting and metal color you choose is just as important. While there are endless possibilities for setting styles when it comes to your metal choices, the most common are gold and platinum. And with gold available in 3 different colors — white, yellow, and rose — it remains the most popular precious metal choice for brides-to-be. Here we’ll compare the different metals so you’ll have everything you need to be able to find the perfect ring to gift to your special someone.
White gold is made of a combination of pure gold, along with a mix of other metals such as silver, palladium, and nickel. This mixture is what gives white gold its silver color. Some jewelers will charge a bit more for white gold due to the addition of rhodium plating. However, at Clean Origin, all of our 14k gold rings, as well as our 18k gold rings are priced the same — regardless of the color.
While similar in appearance to platinum, white gold is much more affordable, while platinum is a more durable metal choice. Clean Origin offers all our settings and wedding band styles in 14k and 18k white gold. White gold engagement rings are the perfect choice if you’re looking for that beautifully bright, silvery look.
Yellow gold is typically a mixture of pure gold, copper, and nickel, which gives it its warm yellow appearance. When you think of a classic-looking pure gold ring, you’re probably thinking of a yellow gold band. That’s because yellow gold has long been considered an essential factor in the archetypal golden ring, and we think you’ll agree that it’s earned its place. Clean Origin offers all our engagement ring and wedding band styles in 14k and 18k yellow gold. Visually, 14k yellow gold has a less intense yellow color than 18k gold. The only difference between 14k and 18k gold is how much true gold is present, and 14k gold will cost less than 18k gold. It is not advised to choose a 24k pure gold engagement ring, because it is a very soft metal, and prone to scratching. Yellow gold is the truest color of gold, and is the purest out of white, yellow, and rose gold. Yellow gold looks stunning for any setting style, but we especially love this metal color on vintage settings. For a classic look, pear, oval, emerald-cut, and cushion-cut diamonds are gorgeous in a yellow-gold setting. Don’t shy away from the timeless look of a yellow gold engagement ring.
Rose gold is a newer look for engagement rings, but has become more and more popular each year. Rose gold is made up of pure gold with silver and copper alloys. At Clean Origin, almost all of our rings are available in 14k rose gold. This means the gold used is 58.3% pure and the ring will be durable due to the amount of ‘other’ metals included. We only offer 14k at Clean Origin for rose gold engagement rings. Rose gold has become especially popular with the millennial generation, who are looking for a more unique look when it comes to their engagement ring. Some brides even choose to mix and match with their engagement ring rose gold and their wedding band in yellow or white gold.
